Srichada Hotel, Khao Lak

During my recent stay in Khao Lak for the November 2015 PADI IDC I stayed at Srichada Hotel, Khao Lak for the first time and I was pleased with it.

The location is excellent, many restaurants and shops are within walking distance and the dive center I work with is next door.

The room was also good, big, clean and everything I need, a fridge, hot water in the shower, a table for my computer with wifi and a nice balcony with a view over the mountains at the back. The rooms in the back are quieter compared to the rooms at the road side.

With 33 rooms they have a choice, with options for air conditioned rooms or fan rooms and breakfast is included.

There's also a parking lot, so very convenient indeed. The beach is about a 10-15 minute walk away and the hotel does not have a pool.

A great option if you book a live aboard trip departing from Khao Lak for a very reasonable price or if you are staying in town and don't need something fancy but convenient for a good price.

Sofitel Bangkok, Sukhumvit

The Sofitel Bangkok, Sukhumvit 13-15 is all about location and convenience. With it's 5 star luxury for a very decent (promotional) rate, you can't go wrong. The BTS (skytrain) station between Nana and Asoke stations, puts you right in the middle of all the shopping and night life action. Asoke also provides a subway connection.

All 345 are well sized, with the smallest rooms still showing 37 square meters. For a downtown location in Bangkok, that's nice. All rooms come with free and fast wifi, a must nowadays and the Sofitel Bangkok, Sukhumvit won't let you down with this.

The Sofitel Bangkok, Sukhumvit has everything you expect from a 5 star hotel, a swimming pool, spa and gym plus all the in-room amenities you need.

Recommended for it's location and good service! Enjoy your stay.

The Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani comes in sight almost every time we visit downtown Surat Thani, that's how centrally located this hotel is. It's at one of the corners of one of the biggest crossings in downtown, opposite the City Pillar and a bridge, it's kind of hard to miss.

It's also located within walking distance from many eateries and shops, very convenient in the evenings.

The hotel is old, and it comes with stunning 172 rooms and you will be treated to a nostalgia trip with all its ups and downs. The rooms are big and still clean, but the furniture is straight out of a 1970-tees movie. I must admit I like these kind of hotels, to a degree. The Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani is good enough to not get turned off and they have a surprisingly fair breakfast buffet in the morning.

For a central location in downtown Surat Thani in olden and in an long gone by style, this hotel is good for a transfer to or from the Gulf islands and it comes with a very decent price tag.

Sivana Place, Thalang, Phuket

The Sivana Place, Thalang, Phuket is located conveniently near the airport ( just some 20 minutes away), near the Dusit Laguna hotel area and near the Thalang Hospital. Without your own car or wheels, it feels a bit isolated, but the rooms do make up for it.

The 18 rooms are clean and spacious, especially the luxury rooms with their 70 square meters are well worth their money.

With a pool and a small gym and fast internet everything you need is available in the room, not to mention air conditioning an a fridge.

Ideal for a stay over from the airport or for your sporting events in the Thalang area or for a monthly stay, the Sivana Place, Thalang, Phuket comes recommended with very good rates to boost.

Pullman Khao Lak Katiliya Resort and Spa, Kuk Kak beach

The  Pullman Khao Lak Katiliya Resort and Spa, Kuk Kak beach was formerly know as 'Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort', but is since 31st October, 2014 part of the Accor hotel chain.

You still receive 5 star service at a secluded beach with plenty of activities on offer, varying from cycling, golf. diving and tennis to name a few.

It's also very children friendly with a kids club and a children's pool.

Out of season the  Pullman Khao Lak Katiliya Resort and Spa, Kuk Kak beach offers some great deals, in high season the prices for the 258 rooms are still within reason for a 5 star resort.

Smile Resort, Thung Song

The Smile Resort, Thung Song is a very simple and basic resort, one like there are popping up all over Thailand. For around 1,000.-THB per night, or in this case even less, you get a basic room with all you really need, air condition, fridge, wifi and a bathroom but no breakfast

.

You can park your car under the roof,immediately next to the entrance door of you room and basically, without your own means of transportation, you're pretty much stock in the resort, since there's not much to in the immediate vicinity.

We stayed here because there was a running event nearby that I visited and it just was perfect for my purpose.

The way this resort was set up had me immediately think of a short time hotel (the car parking, the car hidden out of view), but it didn't seem to be used as such, although across the road there were a couple of very straightforward short time establishments. This place seems to be pleasant though and if you ever get find yourselves in the provincial area of Thung Song in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, this is a good budget option.
